The anatomy of Prison and the Mental Ward are very different though at the same time similar. It is a structure where you can Be someone once again and not based on the Societies structure of popularity and success. My tim in lock down was much shorter than the mental ward, but I’m the type of guy that does nothing else but observe and try to figure out the mental spiritual atmosphere wherever i am.
Now their were bullies, but they were not popular but feared. In prison, that IS popularity – FEAR. In the Ward, it’s just like school, you kinda hate them, but hang with them because you have to.
The prison seemed very base, and animalistic, much like the lord of the flies, where power and objects rule. Where the mental ward seemed to be about the currency of love. Sounds strange doesn’t it? Well what I observed was that those that could demonstrate love from the outside word i.e. Parents, wives, children, were the most popular and powerful. Now their were bullies, but they were not popular but feared. In prison, that IS popularity – FEAR. In the Ward, it’s just like school, you kinda hate them, but hang with them because you have to.
And once agin in my life, I was The King.. King of the loons in all the wards, and I liked it, and felt at home with my kingdom.
In the smoke room, the most anticipated conversations were reports on others outside connections.. and of course drugs and really dirty jokes. But it was kind of a highlight when someone would tell you about their wife or mother or friend that was going to bring them some deodorant, and all the rest who had no good deodorant felt somewhat insuperior to that person. Now.. disagree, I’d love to hear it. But in every ward, the “king” was the one with the most outside connections, resulting in the best objects i.e. smokes, deodorant, candy etc.. But! it differs on a landslide from Prison where the “Objects” are the Power.. in the ward, the fact that you have the person supplying the objects is the power. And, the more persons supplying and calling, the more power.
I could be way off on this.. it was just my observation and it seemed true in all circumstances. And once agin in my life, I was The King.. King of the loons in all the wards, and I liked it, and felt at home with my kingdom.
